A Mobile Agent Application by Wong, Anthony [Paperback] $116.3 The Grid Computing changes the way people using computers by allowing geographically separated people and computers to collaborate, and increases the aggregate performance of available computational resources for important applications. In the effort to maintain its efficiency and productivity, it is crucial to provide a fault tolerate environment in grid. The work on fault management is especially challenging due to the complexity of grid, and it is difficult to satisfy grid users with different needs and expectations. This book proposes a fault management framework in grid based on the application of the Mobile Agent. This framework consists of various agent components in an agency, each one of them has its distinct role in fault management. These agents are able to migrate, to communicate and work autonomously to complete their tasks at multiple networked computational devices. The Mobile Agent technology is proven effective in Grid Computing due to its mobility, scalability, flexibility, reusability and ability to work autonomously in distributed and heterogeneous environment. Ifart Mobile $162.5 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles iFart Mobile is an application for the Apple iPhone OS, distributed using the App Store. When launched, the screen displays a red button on a brown background. Operating the button releases one of a selection of flatulence sounds with names like Jack the Ripper, Howard the Duck and Bubbler. The app also features a stealth feature that triggers the fart after a set period of time, and a security feature that plays the sound if the iPhone is moved. The app was launched in December 2008 by Infomedia, a technology company owned by Internet marketer and author Joel Comm. Apples acceptance of iFart Mobile appeared to mark a change in the companys policy towards humorous apps. Three months earlier, Apple had rejected Pull My Finger, a rival app with similar functionality, on the grounds of limited utility. That decision, later reversed, sparked complaints among commentators about the arbitrariness of Apples decisionmaking. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Mobile Phones and the KeystrokeLevel Model $132.24 The KeystrokeLevel Model gives the time it takes for an expert to do a task errorfree. It does this by using operators that represent keystrokes, mouse movement and presses, the movement of hand between the two, and the the time spent mentally preparing for an operator. While these operators are clearly linked to the desktop, these operators can work on mobile phones as well. We present an open source tool, KLMQt, that can examine events that are delivered to an application and convert them into KeystrokeLevel Model operators. This has the advantage that all that needs to be done is demonstrate the application to get a model, resulting in a savings of time. We include how the tool works along with the details of its implementation. To test the tool, we run it along with other desktop evaluation methods for a couple of mobile phones: the Trolltech Greenphone, the FTC Neo1973, and the Apple iPhone. We find that these evaluation methods show promise for mobile devices and should be pursued further when doing evaluations of applications on mobile phones. Open Mobile Alliance $89.22 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) is a standards body which develops open standards for the mobile phone industry. The OMA was created in June 2002 as an answer to the proliferation of industry forums each dealing with a few application protocols: the WAP Forum (focused on browsing and device provisioning protocols), the Wireless Village (focused on instant messaging and presence), The SyncML Initiative (focused on data synchronization), the Location Interoperability Forum, the Mobile Games Interoperability Forum and the Mobile Wireless Internet Forum. Each of these forums had its bylaws, its decisiontaking procedures, its release schedules, and in some instances there was some overlap in the specifications, causing duplication of work. Supporting Collaboration in Mobile Environments. $115.71 Continued rapid improvements in the hardware capabilities of mobile computing devices is driving a parallel need for a paradigm shift in software design for such devices with the aim of ushering in new classes of software applications for devices of the future. One such class of software application is collaborative applications that seek to reduce the burden and overhead of collaborations on human users by providing automated computational support for the more mundane and mechanical aspects of a cooperative effort. This dissertation addresses the research and software engineering questions associated with building a workflowbased collaboration system that can operate across mobile ad hoc networks, the most dynamic type of mobile networks that can function without dependence on any fixed external resources. While workflow management systems have been implemented for stable wired networks, the transition to a mobile network required the development of a knowledge management system for improving the predictability of the network topology, a mobilityaware specification language to specify workflows that execute across mobile networks in the physical world, a mobile workflowmanagement system to execute the workflows, and its accompanying algorithms that help automate key pieces of the software. In addition to details of the formulation, design, and implementation of the various algorithms and software components, this dissertation also describes the construction of a custom mobile workflow simulator that can be used to conduct simulation experiments that verify the effectiveness of the approaches presented in this document and beyond. Also presented are empirical results obtained using this simulator that show the effectiveness of the described approaches. Mobile Robots By Cook, Gerald $134.1 An important feature of this book is the particular combination of topics included. These are (1) control, (2) navigation and (3) remote sensing, all with application to mobile robots. Much of the material is readily extended to any type ground vehicle. In the controls area, robot steering is the issue. Both linear and nonlinear models are treated. Various control schemes are utilized, and through these applications the reader is introduced to methods such as: (1) Linearization and use of linear control design methods for control about a reference trajectory, (2) Use of Lyapunov stability theory for nonlinear control design, (3) Derivation of optimal control strategies via Pontryagins maximum principle, (4) Derivation of a local coordinate systemwhich is fundamental for the steering of vehicles along a path never before traversed. This local coordinate system has application regardless of the control design methods utilized. In the navigation area, various coordinate systems are introduced, and the transformations among them are derived. (1) The Global Positioning System (GPS) is introduced and described in significant detail. (2) Also introduced and discussed are inertial navigation systems (INS).
